2017-03-14 Ukraine: The Innovative Technology of Cleaning Gases from Harmful Impurities

The Innovative Technology of Cleaning Gases from Harmful Impurities

Description of the project offered:
Practical purification mainly uses the following methods of cleaning emissions to the atmosphere from hazardous vapors and gases: absorption of liquids; adsorption with solid sorbents; catalytic cleaning methods.

"Wet" technologies require a large consumption of water and energy, are bulky and difficult to operate, produce a large volume of aggressive wastewater requiring neutralization and disposal, cause corrosion of process equipment.

The adsorption technology is based on the input in the flue gases of the dry reagent in a finely dispergirovany. In this case, the bonding of the contaminant is only on the surface of the particle and inside the particle always remains a large amount of unused reagent. This method is expensive, energy-consuming and requires additional cleaning of waste gases from dust.
The most widely used adsorbent is activated carbon. A significant disadvantage of this method is the high cost of the adsorbents, high energy costs, desorption of pollutants, the complexity of the utilization of waste adsorbent, etc.

Catalytic methods for cleaning are complex and cumbersome. As efficient catalysts is necessary to use costly substances: platinum, palladium, ruthenium. Cheaper catalysts as nickel, chromium, copper are less effective.

Various combinations of the above methods are known and used.
Proposed technology is not applicable to these groups and is fundamentally new, based on the synergy of known phenomena and effects that were created by the applicant. The utilization of the active phase increases to 70%. Competitive advantages of this technology, in addition to its novelty, are the following: having minimal power consumption the technology is simple and efficient in operation, does not form a liquid effluent, eliminates corrosion of equipment. The result is a solid reaction product, which is not desorbed and not washed out.
Contact materials can be produced from granular waste building materials and disposed of in the manufacture of new building materials, completing thus a full cycle of a treatment technology.

The described technology of dry contact gas cleaning was successfully tested on a number of industrial enterprises for purification of flue gases of the enterprises of building industry, the waste gases of furnaces, vent gases of etching and electroplating baths and so on. The degree of purification of gas emissions is over 90 %.
Under the proposed project we plan to carry out additional research for improvement the technology. Production of pilot batches of contact materials, to fabrication and testing installations (units) of different capacities, design and engineering works for various types of emission sources and pilot testing are planned too. Important elements of the project will be protection of intellectual property, market research, including defining market segments for wide technology implementation and commercialization, and the creation of a closed technological chain for implementation of this technology in various industries for purification of exhaust gases.

Expected results.
1. The introduction of new technology which can effectively solve the problem of flue gas cleaning for small and medium-sized enterprises in the EU, making cheaper the cost of production.
2. Establishment of cluster of enterprises and companies on the basis of the proposed technology.
3. Improvement of environment and creation of additional jobs.
4. The greening of the cost structure per unit of output at the enterprises that have implemented this technology.
5. The creation of value chains for European enterprises.
