Carbon Nanosorbents Development for Hydrogen Storage in Fuel Cells

Description of the project offered: 
Project is dedicated for the development of hydrogen storage systems with the maximum possible capacity, efficiency and profitability using carbon nanostructures. Creating of the scientific basis of the technologies for the production and thermo-chemical modification of the carbon nanosorbent used in hydrogen energetic. 
The tasks of the Project:
– manufacturing, thermochemical modification, thermobaric hydrogen activation, study of adsorption processes and capacity of nanocarbon materials;
– creation of an experimental container, development of the technology of adsorption-desorption of hydrogen;
– development of methods to reduce the cost of equipment and nanoadsorbents manufacturing technology, 
– production of synthesis gas and study of the process of hydrogen selective adsorption. 
Expected results:
It will be specified parameters of the technological process of nanostructures (carbon nanotubes, thermoexpanded graphite, activated carbon) production on their yield, purity, homogeneity and hydrogen capacity. Obtained regularities will allow an obtaining of the reproducible results.
Nanotubes. We have set and investigated technological modes of synthesis of carbon nanotubes (CNTS) using natural gas as raw material. We can produce so called “big” MCNTS with outer diameter near 300 nm.
Thermoexpanded graphite. This unique material has very low bulk density (2-5 kg/m3) and high specific surface area. We have at our disposal designed and constructed pilot unit for thermoexpanded graphite production.
Activated carbon of a new generation. Material has a specific surface area ( near 2000 m2/g). 
The sorbent is produced from the carbonized materials by gas-vapour activation in a fluidized bed followed by milling in a high-speed ball mill. The resulting material is a nanostructured activated charcoal.
