Biomass/Lignin to Fuels and Chemicals via Hydrothermal Liquefaction


Description of the project offered: 
By thermochemical conversion, the depolymerization of lignin/biomass into liquid products can be realized for production of fuel and chemicals. There are a number of technologies such as LtL (lignin to liquid), HTL (hydrothermal liquefaction), biocatalytic oxidation etc. have been identified to be attractive for fuel and chemical production from lignin/biomass. These technologies together with biomass fractionation will be studied further in this project to reach commercialization. In the same time, a techno-economic analysis will be made to evaluate these technologies based on Aspen Plus.
