2016-07-13 Belarus: Exoskeleton Legs for the Disabled Project

Exoskeleton Legs for the Disabled Project

Description of the project offered:
Background
There's a group of persons called "the disabled" in modern society. They were damaged by different diseases or accidents and now can't use parts of their own body. This situation causes lots of inconveniences:
● Personal discomfort: feeling of inferiority, communication problems, entrance into personal space and private life and etc.
● Society discomfort: millions of dollars spent by governments and insurance companies for care (nurses, transport, territory arrangement and etc.).

The idea is to create a personal device based on exoskeleton technology which allows disabled persons to move like a healthy human.

Problems to solve:
● To develop mechanical structure which duplicates human skeleton and muscle systems.
● To develop algorithms of simple motions like walking, squatting, climbing stairs and ect.
● To develop control system which will be comfortable and useful.
● To develop sensor system to control user and territory conditions.
● To develop balance system and algorithm.
● To develop battery system of exoskeleton.

Disadvantages of exciting prototypes:
● There`s no working prototype which allows person to walk and turn without special crutches.
● All exciting prototypes have rigid structure unlike human body.
● Most of prototypes are very energy-intensive, massive and slow.
● All exciting prototypes have no balance system for sudden external pushes, impulses and etc.
