2016-06-29 Ukraine: The Consortium for the Development of Universities Through the Implementation of Systemic Institutional Changes by Performing Gender Equality Plans

The Consortium for the Development of Universities Through the Implementation of Systemic Institutional Changes by Performing Gender Equality Plans

Description of the project offered:
Gender equality is able to reveal previously untapped scientific potential of universities. Therefore, in the framework of the project, in the technical universities, which will join the consortium, it is planned to increase the participation of women in scientific research which will contribute to the increase in the number of qualified researchers in the ERA, encourage the diversity of viewpoints and increase creativity and innovations.
The creation and implementation of the Gender Equality Plans of technical universities, which will produce institutional changes, will be the key tool of the consortium. Institutional changes of the universities regarding gender and ethical perspectives are planned to be consolidated at the level of corporate cultures of universities as well.
GEPs of the universities will consist of three structural components:
(A) analysis of the level of gender equality at technical universities which are in the consortium at the level of HR of the university, teaching and research activities, gender bias against students etc.;
(B) implementation of GEPs actions in administrative and academic career, family development of female researchers, as well as in student life of the universities;
(C) monitoring the indicative readings of the progress regarding the implementation of systemic institutional transformation of universities in the gender equality part.
Institutional changes and support to responsible researches and innovation in universities will contribute to the revision of the guidelines, their own procedures and practices with the aim to eliminate administrative, organizational, cultural and language barriers.
Also an important task for GEPs is establishing of systemic communication of female researchers to enable exchanging and testing of a proper theory and practice within the frames of the consortium, at the national and international levels; free access to international scientometric databases. Adapting curricula and developing trainings to raise awareness on gender issues, dissemination of the results and reaching a wider scientific and other public are important.
The implementation of Gender Equality Plans in technical universities will automatically initiate similar processes at large industrial enterprises, where the scientific achievements of technical universities will be implemented.
All members of the consortium are at the early stages of Gender Equality Plans creation, and they have provided support from their leadership and documents confirming their commitment in the implementation of GEPs.
The consortium will collaborate with other projects on gender issues as well.
