2016-05-09 United Kingdom: Innovative Solutions to Achieve Sustainable Mobility in Urban Areas

Innovative Solutions to Achieve Sustainable Mobility in Urban Areas

Description of the project offered:
The Scope of deliverables within the Project Proposal pursues the review, research development of the current state of Transportation Demand Management (TDM) and Transportation Management Associations (TMA) organizations within the European Economic space. In the lack thereof, examples from Non-EU states are to be researched and evaluated on their means to compliment and increase models of sustainable mobility and the drive for a less car dependent society. The joint review of EU and non-EU actions in the field of mobility will provide a rich basis for evaluation, transferability, and operational assessment for maximum effectiveness in EU environments. This research and evaluation will be performed as the initial due-diligence step in the process to arrive at the optimal operational solution for future implementation.
Upon the completion of the initial due-diligence, a model for the creation and implementation of a EU-wide TDM/TMA is to be pursued and piloted throughout targeted urban areas that contain the following criteria:
• Support a population critical mass
• Have existing multi-modal transportation and infrastructure
• Have an increasing demand for mobility solutions due to commute needs
• Serve as a multi-employer base which providing both the flow of passenger/commuters and freight / goods.
• Fully acknowledge and integrate with existing public transit or other public transportation systems

The TDM model to be incorporated as a non-profit / non-governmental entity to be built vis-a-vie Public-Private collaborations (PPC) which provide multimodal solutions that cover the entirety of a commute / travel: from first-to-last-mile/km (door-door) combinations.
The potential TDM entities’ operational focus and capacity will be to:
• Increase the visibility and promotion of alternative transportation modes.
• Implement alternative transit operations that provide door to operate, monitor, report and expand rideshare programs (RidePro or similar software for carpool / vanpool)
• Implement operational IT solutions that will enable to operate, monitor, report and expand rideshare programs (RidePro or other ridematch/placement systems for carpool / vanpool)
• Create and operate rideshare programs/synergies with existing public and private transport/transit/commuter agencies and the auto industry.
• Create incentives measures that will provide growth in commuter programs.
• Report the efficiency and impact of the programs through monitoring and commuter commitment.
• Review, evaluate, refine, alter and expand the program based on participant and potential participant research.
• Procure means of program expansions throughout the EU.
• Advocate on behalf of transit stakeholders as well as support governmental bodies with policy recommendations, insight and data favourable for the drive towards sustainable and efficient transportation.
• Procure continuous innovative solutions that support more sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation (green vehicles, driverless vehicles)

The TDM creation provides a clear path to efficient and impactful modes of transportation that support pollutant reductions, energy conservation, traffic mitigation, improved land-use, improves work-life balance through better, faster more stress-free commutes. Furthermore they provide an operational monitored means to sustain, promote and grow rideshare activities.
