The Development of Special Technologies Focused on Decontamination of Metal Components/Constructions of Radioactive Agent and Recycling Liquid Radioac

Description of the project offered: 
On the territory of the nuclear power plants in the stores is a significant amount of liqued radioactive waste (LRW). The weight of accumulated LRW is increased as a result of the decommissioning of nuclear facilities. The areas occupied by graves LRW increase and of economic activity shows a significant amount of expensive and scarce metal.
During operation equipment (heat exchange equipment, piping and connections, devices for the fuel elements, etc.) is contaminated by radionuclides and acquires induced radiation, thus becomes a source of danger to personnel and the environment, and therefore requires decontamination. The need for decontamination of high-value equipment and machinery at NPP requires creation of effective technologies and equipment that meet international standards.
As a rule, most of the radioactive contamination accumulates in defects (microcracks and microcavities) of metal surface layer formed by oxide compounds, and can be removed by mechanical, chemical and electrochemical methods. The thickness of this layer is estimated to be about 50 microns.
In the NPP conditions metal surfaces are contaminated mainly by activated corrosion products of construction materials - isotope 54Мn, 55Fe, 60Со, decay products - 90Sr, 137Cs, and if fuel elements are damaged - 238Рu, 239Рu, 240Рu, 241Аm, 242Аm, 237Np etc.

Currently used practice of implementation of decontamination agents in various enterprises for the most part there isn’t a systematic approach. Thus, with introduction of any decontaminant, professionals are interested primarily in decontamination factors and the cost of work, but not the questions of secondary waste processing, as is often other units are engaged in the processing of secondary waste.
Thus there is an urgent need to develop a uniform methodology for the implementation of decontamination agents.
The existing technology of decontamination of metal products and structures is proposed for implementation at enterprises with large amount of metal radioactive waste, but without technical and technological means for waste processing.
Objects of decontamination can be residential and industrial buildings, parts of the territory, equipment, vehicles and facilities, clothing, household goods, food and water.
The ultimate goal of decontamination - to ensure the safety of people, eliminate or reduce the harmful effects of ionizing radiation on the human body.
Offer Solution to increase technological equipment service life
The essence of technology: the method of cleaning of contaminated metal surfaces includes the step of forming of the porous oxide film on the surface that needs to be cleaned after the physical and chemical processing methods and further treatments of products and constructions by electric impulse methods and/or ultrasound.
Implementation of the technology involves the use of a portable, wearable and stationary equipment, and achieving of background radiation safe for human life.
