Reduction of Wheel / Track Wear of Railway Vehicles on the Basis of Handleability and Motion Resistance Research

Description of the project offered: 


The aim of the project is to develop the conceptual design requirements to the constructive schemes of railway rolling stock running gears with low motion resistance, low wheel / rail wear and low Life Cycle Cost of bogies.
The research is the development of the theory of directing the railway vehicles by rail track, and the theory of vehicles handleability.
There will also be complemented the theory of closed power circuits.
In order to achieve the aim, the following tasks will be solved:
• research of the structure and formalization of motion resistance;
• development of evaluating methods for the kinematic motion resistance;
• building-up the mathematical model for the kinematics of the wheels-rails contact slip;
• research of dependence between kinematic motion resistance for two-axle and three-axle bogies
• research of trucks geometric parameters influence on kinematic motion resistance;
• developing the criteria for evaluation of railway vehicle handleability
• developing the experimental training stand-set for the research of kinematic motion resistance and railway vehicles handleability.
Railway vehicles are considered a system with a group multi-contact wheels propulsor.
The project authors have discovered the existence of additional kinematic motion resistance.
The cause of the kinematic motion resistance is wheel-rail frictional interaction in the process of directing vehicle-rails.
The wheelset-rails frictional interaction can be connected with the circulation of parasitic capacity in closed power circuits of group wheels propulsor .
It has been stated that the kinematic motion resistance has a substantial weight coefficient in the total motion resistance and a significant effect on the wear the wheels-rails contact surfaces.
