Electric Generating Units that Use Surplus Steam from the Main Technological Equipment of Metallurgical Enterprises

Description of the project offered: 
TOPIC : Integrated approach to process optimisation for raw material resources efficiency, excluding recovery technologies of waste streams. Topic identifier: SPIRE-07-2017.
Single source of electricity that can be installed on mining and metallurgical enterprises, power of which is used to supply consumers of these companies, currently become increasingly popular. The main idea of this project is that for the production of electricity to use the power point features (micromachines), the energy carrier for which is unclaimed steam from the main equipment of mining and metallurgical company, and to use turbo generator sets ("turbine–gearbox–generator") with improved technical performance.
In this case electricity generation provides the maximum useful use of residual (unclaimed) fumes from metallurgical units: cooling systems of blast-furnace and open-hearth furnaces, boilers chillers of converter gases, etc. Producer of electricity is the turbine-generator, the main characteristics of which are:
1. Generated power is 0,5–3 MW;
2. Rotation frequency of generator is 3000 rpm;
3. Excess steam pressure at the inlet less than 4,0 MPa;
4. Excess steam pressure at the outlet 0,6 MPa;
5. Steam temperature at the inlet 420-650 ° C.
The authors propose to fulfill complex of experimental studies that will allow:
– develop the design of turbo generator sets of blocks;
– to determine an optimal, energy costs, operating modes turbine generator installation, to work properly, which would require a vapor pressure less than 4,0 MPa;
– to assess and optimize material and financial the manufacturing costs of the developed equipment;
– to formulate recommendations on possible (valid) design changes in the equipment of micromachines low power aimed at increasing their competitiveness, reducing the material consumption and increasing lifetime;
– to formulate proposals for energy saving measures, aimed at using unclaimed vapors from the primary equipment of mining enterprises for turbine generator units of block type.
The results of this project aimed at solving environmental problems, in particular, at reducing emissions of greenhouse gases, energy saving and energy efficiency of modern industries.
