2016-02-03 Polland: Multi-fuel Microwave Plasma Reformer for Hydrogen Production

Multi-fuel Microwave Plasma Reformer for Hydrogen Production

Description of the project offered:
The proposal fits the Topic FCH-02-2-2016 "Development of compact reformers for distributed bio-hydrogen production". We offer a prototype of a reformer using microwave plasma at atmospheric pressure. Nowadays, it produces ca. 1 kg H2 per hour with purity 98%. So far it was tested with methane, ethanol, isopropanol and kerosene. Full description of the prototype can be found in the attached pdf file. In order to meet all requirements listed in the Call the device must be improved by:
- replacing polyimide membranes (hydrogen separator) to other, more durable and sulfur-resistive,
- utilization of CO/CO2/carbon black formed in the plasma reforming processes,
- recuperation of heat released from the plasma,
- adding WGS reactor for enhanced hydrogen production,
- developing cheap microwave power generator (based on a typical magnetron used in a house oven).
Some improvements in plasma module enhancing hydrogen production are also possible (that would be our task).
We are looking for Participants and Coordinator offering their experience and interested in developing our device.
