2015-12-31 Spain: Aromatics from Lignin in Waste Side Streams

Aromatics from Lignin in Waste Side Streams

Description of the project offered:
The objective of chemical pulping processes is to remove enough lignin to separate cellulosic fibres one from another to produce suitable pulp, being lignin considered only as a fuel to power paper mills (after being concentrated, the black liquor containing lignin is fired into a recovery boiler for the production of steam, electricity and inorganic chemical). The challenge of lignin is to explore the potential of this renewable resource, in order to obtain new valued molecules and chemicals.
For the incoming H2020 calls, ENCE is interested in the transformation of the lignin present in the black liquor into different products that have real use for intermediate or final consumers.
