2015-11-27 Ukraine: Development of an Energy Model of the Heat Energy Sustainable Consumption Through Changing Consumer’s Behavior Towards Energy Efficiency

Development of an Energy Model of the Heat Energy Sustainable Consumption Through Changing Consumer’s Behavior Towards Energy Efficiency

Description of the project offered:
Current interrelations between producer and consumer do not create prerequisites for consumers’ rational behavior in terms of their investing into energy efficient economical technology. Existing financial and nonfinancial barriers do not take account of humanistic aspects and behavioral nature of decision-making, and only demotivate consumers.
In addition, one should keep in mind that energy market is neither buyer’s nor seller’s one. Experts define it as the market of special type where producers and consumers should be partners in order to work out an optimal variant of its operation and development to reduce costs of both market players in long- and short-term perspectives.
Thus, it is planned that in every country there will be a certain territory location singled out in a big city that includes a heat-generating company, as an object of heat energy delivery, and a dwelling sector (multistoried dwelling houses), which are, actually, consumers of this energy and located on the above-mentioned territory. It is also planned to carry out a long-term empirical study of the consumers’ behavior.
Quantitative technical empirical data will be data from heat meters installed in the dwelling houses, data from output heat meters installed in the heat-generating company and the cost and quality of services related to heat energy generation and its delivery to the consumers.
Qualitative socio-economic data collected through the cassette expert study will be the results of questionnaire and other surveys of the consumers as to their awareness and involvement in decision-making, existing barriers, motivation factors, understandability of the offered energy-saving products, consumers’ level of knowledge and their expertise.
The research provides for identifying consumer’s place in the model of sustainable heat energy consumption, stratifying consumers into separate groups, identifying the most effective communication measures and feedback mechanism for each consumers’group in order to form their energy effective behavior or to rationalize the latter depending on the key individual factors defined in the course of the research.

Call for proposal title:  CALL: ENERGY EFFICIENCY CALL 2016-2017
Call for proposal identifier:  H2020-EE-2016-2017

Description of the collaboration sought:
The research is planned to be carried out within the topic: EE-08-2016: Socio-economic research on consumer's behaviour related to energy efficiency.

We are looking for an experienced coordinator and other partners to participate in a consortium.
In Ukraine we are planning to carry out empirical research in Zaporizhia on the base of "Municipal Heat Networks" Concern ( ) and dwelling houses heated by this company. The research will be carried out in the open data mode, that is why it will be advisable to compare our results with those obtained in other countries as well as to engage scientists from one country to analyze data obtained in another country. Provided personal data are protected, we count upon help in analyzing consumers’ behavioral characteristics.
