Development of Nanofluidsfor Emergency Cooling of Overheated Surfaces

Description of the project offered: 
The most important area in the practical usage of nanofluids (NFs) is intensification of heat exchange processes, without which it cannot function properly any modern industry or energetics (nuclear industry, automotive and mechanical engineering, rocket science, electronics, laser transmitters etc.) All branches above require intense heat removal. Developed NFs will have application as heat mediums for cooling of high loaded equipment under high specific heat fluxes.
In the framework of this project it is planned to perform the following activities: to develop effective compositions and method for production of NFs which are stable under boiling and radiation influences and have extremely high cooling ability; to prepare NFs samples in amount sufficient for providing tests in different devices; to evaluate effectiveness of emergency cooling of heating surfaces with the help of NFs in case of boiling crisis.
The project also provides for the creation of scientific bases and technology of NFs production for emergency cooling of equipment. Pilot unit for production of NFs will be manufactured. Samples of stable NFs will be tested to cool heat exchange equipment. Test unit for synchronous recording of changes in the basic thermal parameters while NFs boiling will be elaborated and erected. It will be quantitatively evaluated the cooling ability of various NFs. Marketing, business plan for the implementation of Project results will be made. 
Expected results.
NFs samples will be prepared with nanoparticles of different chemical nature and their properties are studied as heat transfer mediums at boiling conditions. Colloidal stability of NFs will be evaluated after their boiling and their cooling capacity in relation to the superheated heating surfaces. On this basis there will be established relations of the influence of size, shape and anisometry of nanoparticles, as well as hydrophilicity and the surface charge on the critical heat flux and heat transfer coefficient during NF boiling. The results will form the basis of technologies for obtaining of new efficient thermal fluids and their use to cool reactors in which highly exothermic reactions are occurred (such as Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, methanation, synthesis on the base of CO, etc.). NFs also can be used to cool the nuclear reactors and to ensure the safe operation of the other power loaded installations.
