2015-09-24 Slovakia: Searching for Coordinator and Partners for FTI Pilot H2020: Underground Heat Accumulator

Searching for Coordinator and Partners for FTI Pilot H2020: Underground Heat Accumulator

Description of the project offered:
Research Centre is looking for a coordinator/partners for a project dedicated to the underground heat accumulator.

MAIN PROJECT IDEA:
Underground heat accumulator, or ground thermal storage is a body of natural ground whose volume is artificially warmed up for the stored heat to be taken out at the time of warmth demand. This solves the problem of heat surplus in hot months of the year and its shortage in winter. Using underground heat store we collect and save excess solar heat during the summer to extract it in the colder part of the year for house and domestic water heating. Exploiting the wonderful property of huge ground mass - thermal inertia, we are able to carry heat from summer to winter. The ground accumulator can be charged with any kind of heat, mainly solar, but also waste industrial heat, or cooling and airconditioning waste heat. To bring the advantages of underground heat storage into individual housing, we developed a patented technology of high performance shallow ground heat exchangers eliminating excavation of the heat accumulation body. This reduces cost by down-sizing the whole system and increases unit power of the underground heat storage making it available for small-scale use.
Storing heat in natural ground has the potential to enable totally emission-free, off-grid, fully energy-independent housing, both new and existing, or even off-grid permanent crop greenhouses with zero heating demands.
