Resilient Control and Telemetry Messaging System


Description of the project offered: 
With the ongoing democratisation of technology both the number of Internet-connected devices and the available bandwidth keep increasing. This has brought new challenges to businesses and governments conducting on-line operations: A number of attacks against businesses have been achieved employing Denial of Service Attacks which take advantage of a high number of compromised devices to occupy all the available bandwidth, rendering the premises Internet connection unusable and making it very difficult for system administrators to diagnose and initiate recovery procedures on such systems.
The proposed Resilient Telemetry and Control Messaging System gives users the access to a global network side-channel which, by creating a community of peers, enables a low cost access to remote servers using the pay-as-you-use principle. This allows the administrator accomplish administration tasks on remote systems which otherwise would be inaccessible.
An additional application of the solution is in the deployment of sensor meshes in remote locations where the sensors can communicate with the remote servers. In such cases the equipments cost would be reduced as only some sensors in the mesh would require the usage of Satcom communications, allowing data from multiple sensors to be sent within the same message and reducing the overall number of Satcom modems required in the system modems required in the
system.
